China’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported that Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, held a meeting with the United Nations Secretary General’s special representative for Myanmar, Julie Bishop, in Beijing on August 20.
In the meeting, Wang Yi said that China firmly respects Myanmar’s sovereignty, independence, national unity and territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, and Myanmar people’s ownership of the Myanmar people’s ownership of the peace process, and supports ASEAN’s role as the main channel.
In addition, Wang Yi said that the UN Secretary General’s special representative for Myanmar has a unique role, and China will encourage and support Julie Bishop in carrying out her duties, so she will play a positive role in bringing about political reconciliation and long-term stability in Myanmar.
Similarly, Julie Bishop said that close discussions and negotiations with China and ASEAN to reach agreements in order to properly resolve the Myanmar issue. He said that he wants to carry out reinforced cooperation.
