Queues for purchasing fuel at stations in Yangon have significantly decreased, and the situation has returned to normal. According to MT News’ ground investigation, only a few well-known fuel stations still have minor queues.
The return to normalcy is attributed to the close monitoring of fuel deliveries by tankers, the prompt issuance of Purchase Orders (POs), and the Central Bank’s provision of necessary dollars to fuel traders. Therefore, starting from 18 August, fuel stations have resumed normal operations.
To stabilize the domestic fuel market, the Central Bank sold over USD 9 million on 15 August at a rate of around MMK 3,400 per dollar, while the external market rate was over MMK 6,000 per dollar. Additionally, nearly USD 90 million was sold on 19 August (yesterday).
As of today, domestic fuel prices are MMK 2,990 per liter for 92 octane gasoline, MMK 3,140 per liter for 95 octane gasoline, MMK 2,420 per liter for regular diesel, and MMK 3,210 per liter for premium diesel. Prices have increased by over MMK 200 per liter for all fuel types within this week.
