The news that there has been a coup within the Tatmadaw is just a rumor, and the head of state and officials are still fulfilling their national responsibilities, the Tatmadaw news agency has responded today.
On August 13th (yesterday), people were concerned about the spread of rumors of a coup on social media, and because of the rising interest in the truth/falsehood of the incident, the Tatmadaw news agency responded as above to the media’s questions.
The full response of the Tatmadaw news agency is, “Fake accounts and subversive media are spreading false rumors with the aim of disrupting the peace and stability of the country.” Regarding the current news on social media, it started to be distributed from Captain Seagull’s Facebook account at around 8:30pm on August 12th. Through that, fake Facebook accounts of local and foreign criminals, as well as some subversive media outlets, were actively spreading the public’s concern. “I would like to inform you that the head of state and officials are fulfilling their national duties together,” replied.
