Japanese citizen Hiyoshi Kasamatsu, who was arrested for raising the price of rice excessively, was sentenced today to one year in prison and a fine of 500,000 kyats, according to people close to the court. “Today, the Northern Court sentenced him to one (1) year in prison and a fine of 500,000 kyats. I have not heard that they will be deported,” said that community to MT News.
Starting from June 30, when the Japanese citizen was arrested, the case was filed and the investigation was completed on August 9, and the order was passed today on August 12. The Japanese citizen is a 53-year-old Japanese national, Hiyoshi Kasamatsu, the executive officer of Aeon Orange Company. He was also arrested because he sold rice at an exorbitant price in violation of the rules set by the Myanmar government.
Hiyoshi Kasamatsu, a Japanese citizen, is a director of Aeon Orange supermarket, a joint venture between Japanese and Myanmar businessmen, and was detained on June 30 for selling rice at a profit of 70 percent above the set price. 2012 Section 5 of the Important Goods and Services Act carries a maximum prison sentence of three years. Japanese government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi urged the release of the Japanese national Hiyoshi Kasamatsu as soon as possible on July 9.
