Russian-based media reported that Rosatom State Corporations, the state-owned atomic energy corporation of the Russian Federation, is likely to build a low-power nuclear power plant in Myanmar.
Russia and Myanmar are likely to sign an intergovernmental agreement to build a nuclear power plant on Myanmar’s territory.
The Russian government has entrusted the Rosatom company to implement the project, and it is likely to build a nuclear power plant capable of generating 110 megawatts of electricity, according to the Russian-based Energyland news agency. Russian and Myanmar signed a cooperation agreement for the peaceful use of nuclear energy in February 2023.
The agreement was signed by the General Director of Rosatom state corporations and Myanmar Science and Technology Minister Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw. After the mutual relations and cooperation between Myanmar and Russia have improved over the past two years, plans to build a nuclear power plant in Myanmar have come.
