Leader of SAC Information Team General Zaw Min Tun said today that Myanmar does not have diplomatic relations with Taiwan, nor is it recognized as a country, and will stand firm on the One China Principle. After Taiwan’s new president, Lai Chin-tel, was sworn in yesterday, General Zaw Min Tun responded to questions from the media about Myanmar’s position.
“In this regard, Myanmar’s position is that since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Myanmar was one of the earliest countries to recognize and support the People’s Republic of China. The People’s Republic of China and Myanmar are strategic partners and good neighbors who have always maintained kinship relations. After losing the war in China, the Kuomintang (KMT) invaded Myanmar (Burma) and attacked China again. In 1953, the Myanmar (Burmese) Army was assaulted with 11 major operations. It was the United States that supported Kuomintang (KMT) that were inside Myanmar at that time. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Myanmar has firmly supported the One China Principle until today. Will continue to stand firm. I would like to say that we will always pay attention to the multifaceted friendship between our two countries,” General Zaw Min Tun said.
In addition, the new president, Lai Chin-tel, said that during the election period, he would not surrender to democracy and freedom, he always used the term that Taiwan is already free.
