The State and Administration Council (SAC) press release team responded today that the permission to work abroad for men has been temporarily suspended in order to take more time to verify the issues of permission to go abroad.

In response to a question from Myanmar Transparency News regarding the news that men’s permission to work abroad has been banned since May 1st, SAC’s press release team replied, “The permission to leave has been temporarily suspended in order to take more time to verify the issues and due to other circumstances.”

According to news, men will no longer be allowed to send job applications to any country from May 1. Those who have already get permission are not included in the list of temporary suspension of work permit abroad and did not say when the temporary suspension would be reopened.

After news emerged that men were banned from working abroad starting May 1, some malicious media outlets have been circulating false news claiming that that this restriction is due to the military service law, which the military is preparing to recruit.
