While Myanmar car importers seek approvals from the Electric Vehicle Imports Supervisory Committee to import EVs into the local markets, Chinese EV companies have eyed the Myanmar market, according to car importing companies.
Recently, Chinese EV companies have submitted enquires about the details of requirements, charging stations and technologies, officials of the companies told the MT news.
“We will explain how to build charging stations, how to cooperate with the committee and to arrange charging stations in public areas, to the committee the day after tomorrow. We still don’t know which brand will be permitted,” a company official said.
Most of the companies trying to import EVs are high tech companies and many Chinese companies are trying to make inroads into the Myanmar market.
The prices of EVs range between US$ 20,000 and 35,000.
There are 15 EV companies that are trying to export EVs to Myanmar online but the Ministry of Commerce will permit companies that meet the standards.
The committee for imports of EVs was formed on with 12 members on 1 July to scrutinize the imports of EVs.
