Macadamia was the most popular Myanmar fruit at SIAL Paris Inspire Food Business held from October 15 to 19 in France, an official of Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (MFVP) told MT News.
MFVP also displays other five kinds of fruits, which are, avocado, mango, konjac, pineapple and Cayenne pepper.
The MFVP said: “The businesspersons prefer macadamia. We are starting to penetrate the market but are still exporting the nuts via unofficial route. Although we would like to mainly export the fruit to China, there is no market demand for it. So we have to export it to Thailand and from there to Cambodia via unofficial route.”
Macadamia is widely grown in Myanmar since three years ago and now sold in the market. But, the nut is still facing competition for its share.
As macadamia nut contains Omega 3, people mostly consume the nuts as food for health. The nuts are healthy for skin and age. Especially in the online market, the nuts are popular among women who wish to have eight nuts per day to grow younger and look fresh.
Roasted peeled-off nuts are available at roundabout Ks 15,000 per 250g and raw with shells is Ks- 4000 per kg. Market price of Macadamia oil is Ks-200000 per viss.
