The press release team of the State Adminstration Council (SAC) responded today that there is no news that electricity rates will be increased, and that there are no plans to increase electricity rates at the moment.
News that electricity rates will be increased after the Thingyan period is spreading on social networks, and when the media asked the news release team about the matter, they replied, “Not yet.”
According to the increased rates collected in 2019, 35 kyats for household electricity meters from 1 unit to 30 units; 50 kyats from 31 units to 50; 70 kyat from 51 units to 75 units; 90 kyats from 76 units to 100 units; 110 kyats from 101 units to 150 units; 120 kyats from 151 units to 200 units, and 201 units and above 125 kyats. For industrial activities, the minimum charge was increased from 125 kyats to 180 kyats per unit. Currently, there are no plans to raise the tax from that rate again.
