According to locals and tour operators, Ngapali beach in Rakhine State that used to be overcrowded near Thingyan is now seeing only a sizable number of visitors despite some local and foreign travellers.
From March before Thingyan and during the summer holidays, Ngapali beach is usually crowded with tourists, but this March only a few people came. With fewer visitors, the income of local food vendors and restaurants has dropped.
There are many domestic travellers going to Chaungtha and Ngwesaung beaches, and some have already booked their holidays for Thingyan.
