The opening ceremony of 135 MW combined cycle power plant held in its plant in Kyaukphyu Township in Rakhine State on 10 October.
The Kyaukpyu combined cycle power plant was opened as successfully project of the cooperation for electric energy sector between Myanmar and China, said Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai.
Deputy Minister for Electricity Dr. Aung Zayya said: “Rakhine State implemented the infrastructure project that can generate 135 MW of electricity with the use of 22 million cubic feet of natural gas per day from Shwe natural gas project and is capable of 1000 million kWh annually to fulfill the needs of electricity for the State and people.”
The total installed capacity of the plant is 159 MW and it has installed world-class high-capability electricity equipments.
Technologies for natural environmental conservation such as thermal recycling and utilization of seawater instead of underwater are used in the plant, and high-tech GIS ensures the stability, reliability and long-term lifespan of the gas-fired plant.
The 230 MW plant in Kyaukpyu can contribute electricity to houses, business sector and industrial sector in Rakhine State.
