According to the telegram channel of the Russian Embassy in Myanmar, on October 2, bishop Pitirim of Jakarta, who is also vicar of the diocese of Singapore of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia, accompanied by Hegumen Pavel, visited the Russian mission. They were greeted by Ambassador Dr. Nikolai Listopadov.
In the reception hall of the Embassy, bishop Pitirim performed a prayer service and held a meeting with the staff of the diplomatic mission, their families and Russian compatriots living in Yangon. Bishop Pitirim also donated the icon to the Embassy.
The purpose of the Russian clergy’s visit is to conduct negotiations with the Myanmar authorities with the assistance of the Embassy regarding the establishment of a Christian Orthodox parish in Myanmar and the opening of a church. This intention has top-level support in both countries.
