According to the Nay Pyi Taw Department of Archeology and National Museum, more than 210,000 domestic and foreign tourists visited the 32 museums opened throughout the country from early April 2023 to early February 2024. More than kyats 13,070 lakhs were collected from local and foreign tourists who visited these museums, and among those who came to study, students, children under 12 years old, monks and nuns were allowed to enter and study for free.
“There are 32 museums under the Department of Archeology and National Museums. From early April 2023 to early February 2024, more than 206,000 domestic tourists and 4,349 foreign tourists entered museums nationwide,” said Dr. Aye Aye Thin, Director of Nay Pyi Taw Archeology and National Museum Department. Museums display cultural heritage, ancient artefacts and historical evidence and are constantly being upgraded.
From December 2023, the National Museum (Yangon), the National Museum (Nay Pyi Taw), the Old Pyu City Zone with Seraketira, Hanlin, Vishnu and the Ancient Culture Zone with Innwa, Pinya, have increased entrance fees by 1,000 kyats for foreign tourists and 5,000 kyats for domestic tourists.
