Ngwe Saung, Shwe Thaung Yan, Chaungtha beaches attract over 500,000 visitors in first nine months of this year

Ngwe Saung, Shwe Thaung Yan and Chaungtha beaches in Ayeyawady Region received over 500,000 local and foreign visitors from 1 January to 15 September 2022, an increase of over 100,000 compared to the same period last year, said U Aung Thu Oo, director of directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
The beaches attracted over 260,000 visitors in 2020 and about 400,000 visitors in 2021. A total of 530,472 visitors including 526,524 locals and 3,948 foreign tourists visited to the popular resorts within nine months of this year.
U Aung Thu Oo said: “The departmental officials in cooperation with local Hoteliers Association has carried out to ensure the safety of visitors and to be clean and attractive beaches. We have underway for travellers to visit interested places such as elephant camps of the Forestry Department and snack island. Two-thirds of bookings for hotel rooms in the beaches are bustling with local visitors on the public holidays. If the number of tourist arrivals is increased, it can create jobs and generate incomes for souvenirs shops in the region.”
There are 120 licensed hotels and guest houses in Ayeyawady Region. Ngwe Saung, Shwe Thaung Yan and Chaungtha beaches are popular destinations in Ayeyawady Region not only for locals but also for foreign tourists.
