The State Administration Council issued an order on 13th February 2024 that the Reserve Force Law is now in force from February 13, 2024. That Reserve Force Law was enforced by the State Peace and Development Council in 2010. The Reserve Force law enforces that a military member must serve in the Reserve Forces for five years from the date of military discharge or retirement.
It is enforced that as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, a military member who voluntarily quits or retires from military service can be appointed as a reserve force. The military authority called up for military service for training or emergencies, veterans must report to the specified place within the specified time.
If convicted by the court of failure to report without sufficient reason, they can be punished with imprisonment of less than five years, a fine, or both: pretending to be ill or injured to degrade health standards, pretending to be disabled, inflicting injury on their own body or intentionally infecting themselves with a disease, intentionally prolonging illness or inflicting disability without proper medical care, voluntarily harming their own body and other methods used to evade military service.
Major-General Min Aung Hlaing said during a meeting with political parties on February 13 that the order to enforce the Reserve Force Law was due to requests from veterans to return to serve in the national defense force.
