On the morning of Valentine’s Day, there were not as many couples with bouquets and big dolls as before, and there were also fewer couples visiting Shwedagon Pagoda, Public Square and other parks that are frequented by couples.

Also, the toy shops in the public square only sold three toys all morning. The couple’s cruise ship in the public square had no passengers all morning.

In the 3rd century, Roman King Claudius II forbade young people from marrying because he was afraid if married young people would refuse to serve as soldiers for him. A priest named St. Valentine married the young couple. So Claudius tortured and killed him. Myanmar’s Valentine’s Day, which honors a Christian priest who sacrificed his life so that such lovers could be together, was popular before, but today is different.

This is because a class of people has flourished in Myanmar with great strength who are jealous and slanderous of posting beautiful pictures, traveling, or being young and happy.

Due to these circumstances, Valentine’s Day in Yangon has been less crowded with people wearing similar shirts, taking memorable photos, and walking around with dolls and bouquets. Today, pairs are sitting together in quiet places, talking, and spending time together in restaurants.
