Former Norway U-21 star Mounir Hamoud has died at the age of 39. The former defender died of cardiac arrest on the first day of his new job as coach. Hamoud has been playing in Norway’s top football for 15 years.
He spent his entire playing career in Norway, notably featuring for Lyn, Bodo/Glimt, and Stromgodset, where he played alongside a young Martin Odegaard. During his career played as a left-back, he retired in 2019 after scoring 29 goals in 349 club appearances. The Moroccan-born player played 7 games for the Norway U-21 team between 2004 and 2005.
He won the Norwegian title with Stromgodset in 2013, the only trophy of his career. After spending the last four years as a player development coach at NFF Buskerud, he returned to his former club Stromgodset in the same capacity. But he died of a heart attack on his first day at Stromgodset.
