Measures are being taken to sign a memorandum of understanding on establishing the friendship city between Yangon, Myanmar and Chongqing and Fuzhou, China by the procedures, according to Yangon Region Government.
Till today, eight cities from international countries are regarded as sister cities with Yangon, and Yangon has conducted economic relations and cultural exchange with those cities.
Myanmar established sister cities with Yangzhou on 8 July 1997, Kumong on 1 December 2008, Nangnin on 10 July 2009, and cooperation on multi-sectors has been conducted.
Establishing sister cities between remarkable cities in China and Yangon, a hub of Myanmar and an economic city can support China-Myanmar relations.
Myanmar and China signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on establishing a Friendship-Province/Region Relationship between Yunnan Province and Yangon Region during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Myanmar in 2020. Yangon received 423 foreign investments from China worth US$-2561.847 million from 1988-89 FY to December 2023.
