Qatar defeated Iran 2-3 to advance to the final of the Asian Cup title defense. Abdullah’s winning goal in the 82nd minute gave Qatar a 3-2 win. Asian Cup hosts Qatar will play Jordan in the final at the Lusail Stadium next Saturday. Jordan advanced to the final with a stunning win over South Korea on Tuesday.
In last night’s game, Iran unexpectedly took the lead over Qatar in the 4th minute of the game with Azmon’s beautiful overhead goal. But in the first half, Abdul Sam and Affitt scored a goal to equalize for Qatar.
Iran scored an equalizer in the 51st minute of the second half with Jahanbesh’s penalty goal. But in the 82nd minute of the game, Abdullah scored the winning goal for Qatar. Iran’s Khalid Zadi was sent off in the 93rd minute of extra time. Qatar, the current champion in the final of the Asian Cup, has a chance to become the first two-time champion since Japan in 2000 and 2004.
