According to mung bean farmers, who are benefiting from mung bean prices even when domestic mung bean production season is due to the increase in demand in India, which has extended the freedom to import mung bean and pigeon peas.

India’s Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry has announced that the right to free import of mung bean and pigeon peas, which will end at the end of March, will be restricted. The Ministry of Commerce extended the term until March 31, 2025, with the notification No. (54/2023) dated 28.12.2023.

As a result, last year when the season of mung bean, it was only around 60,000 kyat per basket, but this year, even when the start of the season of mung bean, it was getting more than 100,000 kyat per mung bean basket.
