In 2023, more than 1400,000 domestic tourists and more than 60,000 foreign tourists came to Shan State, totaling nearly 1500,000 tourists, according to the director of Shan State Hotel and Tourism Department, U Htin Aung Naing.
Among the 457 hotels and guesthouses licensed by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism for the convenience of tourists visiting Shan State, 337 hotels and guesthouses are currently open and providing services.
“It can be said that tourist arrivals in Shan State are more in 2023 than in 2022. In 2023, 1413015 domestic tourists and 68317 foreign tourists, totaling nearly 1500,000 domestic and foreign tourists.
In Shan State (southern part), they often visit areas such as Kalaw, Aung Ban, Pintaya, Ywar Ngan, Taung Gyi, Mwe Taw Kakku, Ho Pone, Inn Lay and Nyangshwe. In (eastern) Shan State, many tourists visit areas such as Kyai Ton and Tachi Lake,” U Htin Aung Naing said.
In Shan State, many places can be visited throughout the year, as well as 12-month seasonal festivals. It is said that the natural scenery of plantations in areas such as villages can attract tourists as well as the dress and lifestyle of the ethnic groups can be studied.
Local and foreign tourists visit the ancient pagodas, waterfalls, mountain lakes, and places where can see the sea of clouds in winter with interest. In addition, many tourists visit the Inlay Thingyan Festival, Taunggyi Tansongtai Festival, Mwe Taw Kakku Pagoda Festival, and Pintaya Pagoda Festival.
