The international practice of testing coffee samples in accordance with the standards before marketing the stuffs is in place in the domestic coffee business, according to Daw Nilar Tun, deputy director of Pyin Oo Lwin Township Coffee Research and Technology Dissemination Centre.
Previously, the domestic coffee market was on-sight price assessment. Now, the international practice of testing coffee samples is in place in the domestic coffee market.
Daw Nilar Tun said: “The testing of coffee samples is practised before marketing the stuffs in domestic coffee business. We tested the quality of coffee in accordance with the standards of Speciality Coffee Association of America and Speciality Coffee Association of Europe in the Coffee Research and Technology Dissemination Centre and distributed knowledge to the coffee cultivators.”
There are ten steps in evaluating the quality of coffee and it can take two days including roasting step. For coffee to be graded as specialty, the coffee cupping score must reach over 80 points and it can get good price.
