Myanmar’s legendary singer U Maung Maung Gyi passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 15, in Yangon Hospital.
The young name of the legendary singer is Maung Maung. He was born on March 18, 1931, in Yangon to his father U Kin Sein, and mother Daw Yin Nyunt. He entered the music industry in 1947 at the age of 16 years. Myanmar’s legendary singer U Maung Maung Gyi, became the joint secretary of the Myanmar Music Council in 1964. In 1985, Chairman of the Music Council of Lanmadaw Township, Secretary of the Myanmar Musicians Organization in 1988, and from 2005 until his death, served as the patron of the Myanmar Music Association. He was awarded many social excellence medals awarded by the government.
When legendary singer U Maung Maung Gyi died, his wife Daw Win Win Myint, Son U Kyaw Kyaw Naing, Daughter Kaythi Naing, and two grandchildren remained.
