After holding presidential elections in Taiwan, the current ruling party’s vice-president, Mr. Lai Chin-ti, was elected as president and Singapore is proud that the party won a third term.Although Singapore continues to accept the one-China policy, it also said that it will build a long-term relationship with Taiwan.
The spokesperson added that Singapore has consistently supported the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.In Saturday’s election, Dr. Lai won with 40.5 percent of the vote, followed by Mr. Hou Yu-ih of the Kuomintang Party with 33.49 percent and Dr. Kou Wan-jae of the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) with 26.46 percent, according to data from the Central Election Commission.
