Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise has planned to supply Shwe offshore natural gas through Yenanchaung off-take of Southeast Asian natural gas pipeline if Pinpet Steel Mill resumes, according to the Ministry of Energy.
Under the guidance of State Administration Council Chairman, MOGE has undertaken the plan to supply Shwe offshore natural gas via the oil off-take of Southeast Asian natural gas pipeline if No (2) Steel Mill (Pinpet) restarts.
Currently, the upgrading and replacement works are being carried out in three phases: 87 miles of Magway-Pyawbwe, 31 miles of Pyawbwe-Pyinyaung and 67 miles of Pyinyaung-Pinpet for Magway-Pyawbwe-Pyinyaung-Pinpet natural gas pipeline as of April this year, and 77.5 percent of the project has been completed.
Union Minister for Industry U Myo Myint Oo inspected the No (2) Steel Factory (Pinpet) near Taunggyi Township and gave instructions to conduct preparation works for distribution of natural gas to the factory when it resumes, make collective efforts to supply local-used natural gas of Shwe project to fulfill the needs of the factory, implement the upgrading and repairing works in accordance with the specified standard.
Afterwards, the minister viewed round the progress in repairing the existing pipeline and replacing the damaged parts with new pipes near Thayetpu Village.
