The air quality of Mandalay was found hazardous as the presence of particles with the size of 2.5 microns and sulphurdioxide gas were detected in the air quality test conducted in 12 cities, said the Environmental Conservation Department.
In its regular nation-wide air quality inspection program, the department has been measuring the main parameters which includes Particulate Matter 10 (PM, Nitrogen Dioxide (NO, Sulphur Dioxide (SO)၊ Ozone (O) နှင့် Carbon Monoxide (CO), with the use of Environmental Perimeter Air Station (EPAS) and Haz Scanner Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM), in all regions and states and NPT council area.
Air quality index (AQI) of NPT, Yangon—, showed that the AQ of NPT was satisfactory although 2.5 micron-participle were found. The AQ results of the remaining cities and towns and Yangon, Taninthayi regions and Kachin State are also at the satisfactory level.
Although 2.5-micron participles were found in PyinOoLwin Timber extraction office and its surrounding areas, the level is still acceptable.Butthe AQ level at vehicle technology research department can be hazardous, especially for sensitive groups. The spread of PM 2.5 in the air in the around the Myanmar Conch Cement factory of Patheingyi Township and deputy director’s office of the Environmental Conservation Department in Aungmyethazan District can cause harm to people.
Moreover, sulphur dioxide gas detected in the air around the deputy director’s office of Meiktila District department can behazardous for the people of the sensitive category. But sulphur dioxide found in NyaungU District and PM2.5 found in Kyaukse District was at the acceptable level.
Similarly, sulphur dioxide found in Monywa and Tachileik are potentially unhealthy for sensitive groups and PM2.5 in Mawlamyine could harm vulnerable people. PM2.5 and Nitrogen dioxide gas found in Mount Zwegapin are at the average level but not in a good condition. PM2.5 and sulphur dioxide gas detected in the air in Sittwe District and Ngapali are also at the acceptable level.
