Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to ASEAN U Aung Myo Myint co-chaired the Meeting between the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) and the National Coordinators of the Pacific Alliance which was held on 31 October 2023 at the ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta in hybrid format.
The Member States of the Pacific Alliance are Chili, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Myanmar is assuming the Country Coordinatorship for ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Relations for 2023-2024.
Ambassador María Eugenia Echeverría, General Director for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru, as Pro Tempore President of the Pacific Alliance, co-chaired the meeting alongside the Permanent Representative.
The Meeting was attended by members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, the Deputy Permanent Representatives, the National Coordinators of the Pacific Alliance, with physical attendance of the Ambassador of Peru to ASEAN and the representatives from the Embassies of Pacific Alliance Member Countries in Jakarta, as well as the representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, and Timor-Leste as an observer.
The Meeting exchanged views on developments in the two regions, reviewed the implementation of the ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Work Plan (2021-2025) and discussed ways to further promote cooperation between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance. ASEAN welcomed the joint projects proposed by the Pacific Alliance in four areas of cooperation on mainstreaming gender equality, student and academic exchanges, cultural exchanges and sustainable management of plastic waste, and looked forward to implementing those projects once finalized by relevant sectoral bodies.
