AS SAC Chairman Prime Minister Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing called for peace talks with ethnic armed organizations-EAOs, peace delegations led by Vice-Chair Dr Naw Kapaw Htoo of the Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) KNU/KNLA (PC) and Chief of Staff Saw Steel of the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army-DKBA arrived in Nay Pyi Taw from Hpa-an, Kayin State on 14 September afternoon.
On arrival at the Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw by car, members and officials of the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, ethnic people from the Department of Fine Arts, departmental staff and local people welcomed delegations by holding miniature State flags and placards bearing “Perpetual peace is the real aspiration of the people”, “Achieving peace is the true desire of all citizens”, “Let’s hold talks for peace in the Union”, “Only the ethnic nationalities are in unity, stability, peace and tranquillity will be achieved”.
The first discussions with the KNU/KNLA (PC) delegation were made from 26 to 28 May 2022 and the DKBA delegation from 19 to 21 June 2022 for peace talks. At the talks, all parties agreed to strengthen the multiparty democratic system, build the union based on the democratic and federal system, and strive for peace and development of the Union.
In the second discussions, all EAOs including those who have not yet come to the peace talks were welcomed to frankly discuss their political interests and future processes unconditionally.
