On the evening of 18 June 2023, there occurred a robbery case in Myat Maung gold and jewellery shop located on Maydarwi street, (I) ward of North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region.
Three suspects, carrying two pistols, arrived with motorcycle, robbed the shop by holding two staff at gun point and took assorted goldwares worth about Ks-1,660 million.
According to the information sent by local residents who are against robbery and ground information, it was found out that the suspects of the robbery case were hiding in Academy Hotel on Shwegondine Road in Bahan Township.
The security personnel searched the said hotel at night of 18 June and seized suspect Ko Ko Aung and his partner Pa Pa Hlaing.
According to the confession of Ko Ko Aung, perpetrators Kaung Htet San (a) Tayokegyi, Kyaw Zin Latt, Kaung Myat (a) Blank, Phyo Ko Ko and Kyaw Zin Wai along with two M4A1 arms, two Sig Sauer pistols, eight assorted magazines, two 91 grenades, 340 rounds of 5.56 bullets,210 rounds of 9 mm Luger bullet and goldwares were seized in North Okkalapa Township.
Similarly, according to the confession of Ko Ko Aung, perpetrators Saw Joseph (a) Cho Toe and Tun Tun Naing along with one M-16 were seized in Maubin Township.
In the incident, nine perpetrators including eight men and one woman were arrested together with arms and ammunitions. Moreover, goldwares were also seized within five hours after the robbery case by the cooperation of conscientious individuals who secretly provided information, and the timely and persistent efforts of security personnel.
It is reported that measures will be taken to take harsh legal actions against the arrested offenders. The entire public is encouraged to report any information about fugitives to relevant authorities in confidence, in order to arrest the related offender as soonest. The whistle-blowers and those who are arrested are being given a deserved and confidential reward, and that security forces are carrying out necessary measures around the clock to ensure in maintaining community peace and tranquility, in strengthening law enforcement and in preventing and arresting crimes and criminals.
