Chairman of National Natural Disaster Management Committee Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, currently in Sittway, and party went to Saint Mark’s Cathedral at the corner of Mayyu Road and Chinpyan Road in Sittway this morning and inspected repair works of the cathedral damaged by the cyclone.
Firstly, U Hlaing Win, presiding reverend of the cathedral, briefed on the damage of the cathedral, repair works and religious matters.
The Vice-Senior General made coordination on the report and gave an address. In his address, he said despite the right to freely practice any religion according to the Constitution, all need to be faithful to the State as they are living in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. They live on the same land and drink water from the same source and share any trouble and happiness through thick and thin. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, rehabilitation measures on those affected by the Mocha Cyclone are being taken on all sides for recovery from the suffering as soon as possible. In doing so, special attention is given to repair the damaged religious buildings. Due to the preparedness ahead of the cyclone, it was able to face the very severe storm with the minimum damage and losses. It is grateful for cooperation in preparedness and rehabilitation. I would like the reverends and Christians to keep cooperating and contributing to rehabilitation measures substantially. The Vice-Senior General then presented foodstuffs and relief items for the Christian organizations.
Afterwards, the Vice-Senior General and party proceeded to Thetkepyin IDP Camp and met its residents. At the meeting, the Vice-Senior General spoke of the state of anybody of citizen, associate citizen and naturalized citizen living in the country sharing all good and bad of the State, the need to work together in rehabilitation measures after experiencing the disaster of Mocha Cyclone, the need to understand the goodwill of the State, the need of not being extreme in any religion despite the right to freely practice any religion according to the Constitution, the need to work together in making their places beautiful and pleasant, measures being taken by the State for things of unseemliness and the need to take measures on a self-help basis, and the state of making efforts to fulfill the needs despite the needs in taking rehabilitation measures statewide. The Vice-Senior General provided them with foodstuffs, packs of green vegetables seeds and rolls of tarpaulin through officials.
Next, the Vice-Senior General and party cordially greeted the people who attended the meeting.
