The 15th Kason water pouring ceremony was held at Maha Bodhi Tree at the northern corner of Uppatasnti Pagoda, Nay Pyi Taw, on Buddha Day, one the 12 seasonal festivals of Buddhist Myanmars, today the fullmoon day of Myanmar month Kason. Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla watered the Maha Bodhi banyan trees.
Also present were SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe, the SAC Secretary, the Joint Secretary and wife, SAC members and wives, union level officials, union ministers, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye and wife, senior military officers from Office Commander-in-Chief and wives, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander, officials and members of religious associations.
The Senior General and wife, SAC members and wives, and attendees took their positions at the ceremony in the pagoda compound. They watered the banyan trees, sprinkled scented water on them and went around them clockwise after the master of ceremonies read out the puja gatha and said Sadhu three times.
Led by Chairman of State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife, the Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) and wife, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung and wife, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Tun Aung and wife, senior military officers from Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) and wives, and officers, other ranks and families watered the banyan trees in the compound of Lawkachnatha Hsutaungpyae Pagoda in Zeyathiri Township.
Fullmoon Day of Kason is a day on which Dipinkara Buddha made a revelation that Hermit Sumedha would become the Buddha, Siddhattha the would-be Buddha, was born, Buddha attained enlightenment, and Buddha attained Nirvana. Hence Fullmoon Day or Buddha Day is a significant day for Buddhists. Kason water pouring ceremony is an enjoyable religious ceremony and a cultural heritage where people perform meritorious deeds. Usually, people sprinkled scented water on Bodhi trees and made them look pleasant one day before the ceremony.
