High-level Leading Committee led by the chairman of the State Administration Council was organized to carry out Myanmar-China Economic Corridor and establishment of border trade cooperation zone between the two countries.
The leading committee aims to implement the Belt and Road Initiative-BRI project and was organized under Notification 40/2023 of SAC on 17 February 2023.
The notification stated that the aim of reconstitution of the committee was to effectively implement the process of analysis and policy adoption for matters in connection with Myanmar-China Economic Corridor and establishment of border trade cooperation zone between the two countries.
The leading committee is chaired by SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Planning and Finance has served as Vice Chairman and Permeant Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as secretary.
Its members include 22 Union Ministers, chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, five chief ministers of Kachin State, Mandalay Region, Rakhine State, Yangon Region and Shan State, and two deputy ministers for Home Affairs and Transportation and Communications.
The leading committee will conduct organizing the expert team for research tasks in connection with Community and Belt and Road Initiative-BRI project, receiving the guidance of SAC office if policy issues on the project appeared, giving instruction about policy in carrying out cooperation on Community and Belt and Road Initiative-BRI project, and giving guidance to cooperate with ministries, governmental organizations, region/state governments in implementing the cooperation under the title “Community and BRI project” between Myanmar and China.
