Economic development is important for regional progress, and regional peace, stability and rule of law are essential for economic growth, Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Vice-Senior General Soe Win said.
He made this comment at the meeting with the MSME entrepreneurs from Danu Self-Administered Zone in Pindaya of the self-administered zone on 18 March.
Also present together with the Vice-Senior General were SAC members U Poe Rei Aung Thein and U Khun San Lwin, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Zaw Aye, the self-administered zone leading body chairman, senior military officers from Office of Commander-in-Chief, and deputy ministers.
The leading body chairman reported on regional points and MSMEs in operation, the chief minister, on endeavours for progress of MSMEs in Shan State.
MSME entrepreneurs from Danu Self-Administered Zone reported on production and distribution of value-added local food products and difficulties.
In his speech, the Vice-Senior General said the trip for development of local MSMEs was arranged in accord with the guidance of the Prime Minister. Local people should join hands with the security forces to maintain peace and stability. Only then will they be able to do business and extend production and markets in a safety environment for socio-economic progress. Locals should develop their income-generating businesses for economic development, and the government departments should provide assistance to them. But the locals play a key role to reach this end.
Pindaya is a famous tour destination for the tourism industry of Myanmar and can attract domestic and foreign tourists. It is necessary to enhance the manufacturing of local products traditionally to promote the tourism industry which is referred to as smokeless factories and generates local and foreign revenues, the Vice-Senior General said.
The economy of the country has improved to some extent as the government has taken measures to balance exports and imports, to promote import-substitute products and to encourage the local manufacturing industries, he added.
SAC has provided MSME entrepreneurs from Danu Self-Administered Zone with a capital of Ks-5 billion as the State economic development fund. It is necessary to repay the loan at the designated period, he added.
Afterward, the Vice-Senior General and party proceed to the Shwe Oomin Natural Cave pagoda in Pindaya and paid obeisance to Buddha images in the cave.
