Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations based in Vienna, Austria Myanmar ambassador U Min Thein attended the Board of Governors meeting of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held at the Vienna International Centre from 6 to 10 March.
Myanmar always supports measures and rights on safety and safeguarding the utilization of nuclear of IAEA and participated in the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency (the Assistance Convention) in 2022, the Myanmar ambassador said.
Myanmar came into effect as IAEA’s signatory member on 3 November, 2022 and received aids in connection with technology and high-capability that support socio-economic development of the country through the agency’s technology cooperation programs, he added.
Moreover, Myanmar ambassador urged member countries to abide Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA) and Additional Protocol (AP).
Myanmar ambassador discussed Myanmar’s cooperation and perspectives in respective sectors on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
