A signing ceremony of Memorandum of Agreement on wind power projects to be launched in An, Gwa and Thandwe townships of Rakhine State, generating 360 Mega Watt was held at the Ministry of Electric Power on 1 March.
Ministry of Electric Power signed Memorandum of Agreement on three wind power projects with the Primus Advanced Technologies Limited, Asia Ecoenergy Development Limited and Yunnan Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Co., Ltd.
The MoA aims to implement An wind power project (150 MW), Gwa wind power project (100 MW) and Thandwe wind power project (110 MW).
The Union Minister of Electric Power urged companies that efforts should be made to generate power from three projects by 2025 and to start construction tasks for the first phase of 50 MW Gwa project in December 2023.
Then, Chinese Ambassador H. E. Mr. Chen Hai said bilateral cooperation will made special benefits for Myanmar which is rich in natural resources such as wind power, solar power, hydropower and natural gas and China which is the largest electricity-generation country in the world.
The Chinese ambassador said that Chinese companies have participated in the nationwide electrification project of Myanmar to meet the obejective by 2030 and as it is the first wind power project to be built in Myanmar, it is the beginning of a new step in China-Myanmar electricity sector cooperation.
Afterwards, officials signed the MoA and exchanged them. The wind power projects in An, Gwa and Thadwe townships of Rakhine State will generate 360 MW and bring benefits to the region.
