Armed groups attacked using heavy weapons in Kawlin and Butalin of Sagaing Region and it was reported two novices and two children were injured.
The armed groups fired grenade launchers to Kawlin town from near Khawpyin Creek Bridge at noon on 13 February. The heavy weapon shells fell and exploded on the No (2) monastic education school of the Ministry of Religious and Culture in the compound of Sunandarrama monastery in Kyawzeya Quarter of Kawlin, it is reported.
It is resulted in novice Shin Arsapha (Age 14, Vasa 2), Maung Zin Wanna Phyo (Age 13) and Maung Wai Lin Aung (Age 14) -being injured, SAC released.
A member of Kawlin-based social welfare society said: “We took ambulances to be ready as soon as we heard an explosion while we sat in the office. And we received a phone call that there are injured people in the monastery and transported them to the hospital. The learning ward was also damaged in the explosion.”
Moreover, armed groups also fired with home-made mortars to Myawady quarter and Khonmingyi quarter of Butalin from Hlwalte Village and near Shwetaung Village at about 3 pm in the same day.
The shells fell and exploded in the compound of Saungtangyi monastery in Khonmingyi quarter and in front of Myoma market, quarter football ground, township municipal office in Myawady quarter of Butalin. It is reported that novice U Wiriya (Age 40) was injured in the explosion.
The two novices and two children were transported to the hospital, it is reported.
