The earthquake struck three times within a day on 16 December in Mandalay, Dr Yin Myo Htwe, Deputy Director of the Meteorology and Hydrology Department, told the MT news agency.
A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale with its epicentre inside Myanmar (about four miles east of TadaU), depth of 63 kilometres, about 15 miles south-southwest of Mandalay seismological observatory, was recorded at 03 hours 16 minutes and 35 seconds Myanmar Standard Time on 15 December 2022.
Due to the quack, a historic Buddhist monastery, the Mei Nu Brick Monastery, located in the ancient historical city of Inwa, has some cracks on it in the aftermath of the earthquake. An arm of the lion statue in Mingun was broken. The diamond orb and the vane of the Myatheindan Pagoda landed on the ground.
Today, the earthquake occurred three times and they are the aftermaths of TadaU earthquake.
A small earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale with its epicenter about two miles southeast of Pyigyitagon in Mandalay Region, depth of 10 kilometres occurred at 06 hours 45 minutes and 21 seconds Myanmar Standard Time on 16 December .
In additions, a small earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale with its epicenter inside Myanmar (about 3 miles east of Myitnge), depth of 3 kilometres, about 11 miles south of Mandalay seismological observatory in Mandalay Region, was recorded at 13 hours 29 minutes and 13 seconds Myanmar Standard Time on 16 December .
Then, a moderate earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale with its epicenter inside Myanmar (about 3 miles southwest of Amarapura), about 11 miles southwest of Mandalay seismological observatory in Mandalay Region, was recorded at 14 hours 28minutes and 31 seconds Myanmar Standard Time on 16 December .
The tremors were felt in Mandalay as well as Pyi Oo Lwin, TadaU, Sagaing, Palaik and Pyigyitagon townships.
