According to local reports, weapons destined for the KNU were seized in Thailand on April 22.
The weapons were being transported in a pickup truck and were stopped by police on Khan Khao Chon Prathang Road (near Suthep Ward) in Chiang Mai due to their suspicious appearance.
The two Thais in the pickup truck reportedly picked up the weapons and ammunition from near the Lotus Department Store in Chiang Mai’s Chan Phu Yat district. They were paid 8,000 to 9,000 baht for the hauling and were to deliver the weapons and ammunition to the KNU forces in the Mae Sam Lap area, Sok Mue Township, Mae Hong Son District.
The weapons and ammunition seized from the vehicle were ten 5.56mm AR-15 rifles, ten 5.56mm magazines and 14 40mm grenade launchers.
