The schedule for the matriculation exams for students in Kachin, Sagaing, and Mandalay, whose answer papers were burned, was announced today. According to the announcement, the exams will be taken between June 16 and 21, but only those who took the exam in all subjects will be allowed to retake it. It was announced that those who took the exam at nine examination centres in the Sagaing Region would not need to retake the exam.
It was announced in state-run newspapers on 29-3-2025 that the answer sheets of the 2025 Matriculation Examination, which were conducted in Kachin State, Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, and Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, were destroyed by fire due to a very strong earthquake that occurred on 28-3-2025 while the examination was being conducted at Mandalay University.
The Matriculation exam for these regions will be taken from 16-6-2025 to 21-6-2025. Myanmar subjects will be taken on June 16, English subjects on the 17th, Mathematics subjects on the 18th, Chemistry and Geography subjects on the 19th, Physics and History subjects on the 20th, and Biology and Economics subjects on the 21st from 9 am to 12 pm each day.
Only those who passed all subjects in the previous Matriculation exam held in March 2025 will be allowed to retake the exam. The list of those who have been admitted will be announced at the relevant regional/state, district, and township education offices and examination centres.
However, those who have taken the examination at the BEHS (Mingin), BEHS (Pan Set), BEHS -1 (Tamu), BEHS-2 (Shwebo), BEHS-1 (Ye U), BEHS (Bhamauk), BEHS (Wuntho), BEHS (Mawlaik), BEHS (Kintat) and BEHS (Ayadaw) examination centres in Sagaing Region do not need to retake the examination. Some of the examination centres held in March 2025 have also been changed, and the remaining examination centres will only be taken at the original examination centres.
The Department of Myanmar Examinations has also announced that admit cards for the re-conducted Matriculation exam must be collected directly from the relevant Matriculation exam supervisors at the examination centres where they will take the examination between 1-6-2025 and 15-6-2025.
The Mandalay earthquake that struck on March 28, 2025, caused the main building of Mandalay University to collapse due to the earthquake and subsequent fires. As a result of the fire, the 2024-2025 matriculation examination answer papers, which were in the main building of Mandalay University, were destroyed by fire. The answer papers of the 2024-2025 matriculation examination, were 280,940 answer papers from 46,944 candidates from Mandalay Region, 43,827 answer papers from 7,311 candidates from Sagaing Region, and 52,189 answer papers from 8,699 candidates from Kachin State, totalling 6,2954 candidates, were lost.
The People’s Pioneer Party yesterday recommended that the answer papers involved in the collapse and fire of Mandalay University’s main building due to the earthquake be given a pass and examined at the university entrance exam rather than re-holding the exam.
