Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected the Myanmar International Convention Center-I (MICC- I) and Yanaungmyin Dam, slightly damaged by Mandalay earthquake that jolted on 28 March and visited the patients at a temporary mobile hospital set up in the township sports ground at Shwekyabin Ward, Zabuthiri Township, and spoke words of encouragement this afternoon.




Accompanied by SAC Secretary General Aung Lin Dway, Union Minister U Myo Thant and officials, the Senior General examined the slight damages caused by the earthquake at the ceiling at the entrance of the main hall of MICC-I, the ceilings of Jade Hall, Ruby Hall, and Emerald Hall and and minor damages of the walls of meeting rooms and gave directives.
At the Yanaungmyin reservoir in Dekkhinathiri Township, the Senior General checked the temporary repair of the cracks at the dam, the work of filling the cracks with sand and earth, and soil testing. As regards the reports on points of the reservoir, strength of the dam, and appearance of cracks due the earthquake, the Senior General pointed out the need to complete the dam before the onset of monsoon, green the watershed areas, and take essential steps for the thriving of the planted trees. He also attended to the other needs.
At a temporary mobile hospital, run by the US-based Samaritan’s Purse International Relief Organization, at Shwekyabin Ward, Zabuthiri Township, the Senior General, while looking around the facility, heard a report on operations of the hospital including surgical operations on patients presented by hospital in charge Dr. Elliott Tenpenny.
He then cordially greeted the patients and thanked the US government and American people for providing assistance for Myanmar.
The hospital in charge thanked the Myanmar government for the logistics support it provided for the convenience of the US medical team in carrying out rescue and relief undertakings and providing medical treatment.
The temporary mobile hospital was jointly erected by Directorate of Medical Services and Directorate of Military Engineers of the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army), with container boxes.
The modern mobile hospital comprises outpatient ward, emergency treatment ward, operation theater, medical store and laboratory. The 60-bed hospital is providing medical treatment and surgical operations for patients with various types of wounds and diseases.
Specialist physicians including surgeons and orthopedic specialists, and nurses of DMS are joining hands with the American team at the hospital. Arriving in Myanmar on 4 April, the US team started its healthcare operations on 7 April, and had conducted surgical operations on 20 patients. The team will open an intensive care unit and two more operation theaters on 10 April to extend its healthcare services.
