Preparations for the central Thingyan pavilion and walking Thingyan in front of Yangon City Hall have been canceled today.
Preparations for the first Myanmar traditional New Year festival which registered as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage were underway in the second week of March, earlier than usual.
However, the strong earthquake on March 28 killed more than 3,500 people and injured more than 5,000, damaging homes, government buildings and religious buildings.
In this time of sorrow, the SAC press team has announced that the first Myanmar traditional New Year festival which registered as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage will be held peacefully and in accordance with Myanmar culture, without music and dancing, so the pavilions that have been under construction are being dismantled not only in Yangon but also in other major cities.
