Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, the SAC Joint Secretary and wife, SAC members, union ministers, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, and other members of the entourage, inspected the extent of earthquake damage in Sagaing and ongoing rehabilitation undertakings this morning and attended to the needs.
At the earthquake-hit Myat Private High School, the Senior General and party inspected the debris clearing work and looked into the requirements of rescue and relief teams. They then went to No 1 Basic Education High School and examined the damaged classrooms. As regards, the reports presented by officials, the Senior General stressed the need to systematically check and record the damages and repair the ones that are in a repairable state phrase by phrase, systematically dismantle the unsafe ones and retrieve reusable items to the most possible degree and restore the repairable school buildings before the start of the new academic year, and to prioritize the building strength.
At the People’s Hospital in Sagaing, the Senior General and party observed the treatment provided to patients injured by the earthquake, and healthcare provided to other injured patients including a male teacher, who was pulled out alive after six days in earthquake rubble. They also gave words of encouragement to the patients and presented cash assistance to them and cash awards to health workers.
They arrived at Athinkhaya Villa of Sagaing Government and heard a report on earthquakerelated casualties in Sagaing Region, damaged religious, education and health buildings and roads and bridges, search, rescue and relief operations carried out by members of Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force, fire brigades, Red Cross brigades in cooperation with foreign rescue and relief teams and progress in removing debris, presented by the Region Chief Minister U Myat Kyaw.
In response, the Senior General assured financial aid for the damages, and said that the assistance will be shared among all eligible persons fair and square. The damaged roads and bridges that were repaired for temporary use must be systematically restored for their sustainability. All State-owned or private buildings hit by the earthquake must be reconstructed at the earliest possible time. Private reconstruction undertakings must be provided with all necessary construction equipment to the utmost degree. Rehabilitation undertakings call for energetic efforts to turn the town into the one that is better and more developed than the previous one. He also looked into other requirements.
The Senior General and party surveyed the damage caused to Moezar Water Supply Plant on Kanna Street, Minlan Ward, attended to the needs to repair the plant and the alignment of its main road.
On arrival at Sakuhmaw rescue camp, the Senior General and party observed the relief undertakings for the earthquake victims and medical treatment provided for them at a clinic.
After looking into the requirements, they cordially greeted and gave encouragement to civil servants and locals from Sagaing who were providing volunteer services. They then observed the damaged Sagaing (Inwa) Bridge from the compound of Sakuhmaw Monastery and sought means to restore the bridge as earliest as possible.
Later, they visited the Malaysian team that was carrying out rescue and relief undertakings, with the 700th Anniversary commemorative people’s sports ground in Parami Ward, Sagaing as the base, and thanked the team leader, Mr. Hasizul, for his clarification of the undertakings.
The Senior General cordially greeted and thanked all the team members individually and presented commemorative gifts and a fruit basket through the leader.
The Senior General and party inspected the rubble removed at the damaged Laykyunmyay Brick Monastery, Thakyadhita Nunnery, Soon Oo Ponnyashin Pagoda, Yadanatheingi Nunnery.
As regards the reports presented by officials, the Senior General said reconstruction must be done phase by phaseto strengthen and restore the religious buildings according to their original design, and attended to the needs. He also cordially encouraged the members of the rescue and relief team and presented a cash award.
The Senior General and party proceeded to Sitagu Vipassana Monastery and paid respects to Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Nyanissara, State Ovadacariya Sayadaw Vice Sangha Raja of Shwekyin Nikaya, Chancellor of Sitagu International Buddhist Academies, and donated Ks-50 million for restoring the collapsed or damages pagodas, where Buddha’s relics were kept, and offertories. Then the merits gained were shared with monks, nuns and people who lost their life or limbs during the earthquake.
They inspected the damaged parts of Sitagu Sangha Tannipata Monastery and instructed officials to restore it at the earliest possible time.
They then examined the road that was damaged to the degree of changing the main alignment in Thawtapan Ward, Sagaing and gave directives.
Later, they observed full renovation of the damaged Maha Zeti Pagoda in Yaingdan Ward, Sagaing, and provided means for its sustainability.
Afterwards, they crossed the Ayeyawady Bridge (Yadanabon) in a motorcade and examined its strength.
