Statement on Temporary Ceasefire
(5th Waxing of Tagu, 1386 ME)
2nd April 2025
- With the aim of achieving lasting peace nationwide and further advancing peace processes, the Tatmadaw has previously issued 22 ceasefire declarations between 21st December 2018 and 31st December 2023. On 26th September 2024, the State Administration Council invited all stakeholders to resolve political issues through dialogue.
- Currently, the severe earthquake on 28th March 2025 and subsequent aftershocks have caused significant damage to infrastructure, casualties, and injuries in affected regions. The state is intensively engaged in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
- Out of compassion for the earthquake-affected people and to facilitate swift humanitarian and reconstruction operations, the Tatmadaw hereby declares a temporary cessation of military operations from 2nd to 22nd April 2025 to ensure stability.
- During this period, all ethnic armed organizations and other armed groups are warned against disrupting public transportation and communication routes, endangering civilian lives and property, attacking security forces’ bases or command headquarters and mobilizing troops, expanding territories, or undermining peace. Any violation will prompt necessary defensive measures by the Tatmadaw to protect the people.
