Today, in commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day, a ceremony to lay wreaths and pay respects was held this morning at the Memorial to the Fallen Heroes (Nay Pyi Taw). Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior GeneralThadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing attended and paid tribute by laying a wreath.
Joining the Chairman of the Senior General at the ceremony were Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commanderin-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Thiri Pyanchi Maha Thray Sithu Soe Win, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Zeyya Kyaw Htin Thray Sithu Kyaw Swa Lin, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Zeyya Kyaw Htin Htein Win, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Zeyya Kyaw Htin Sithu Tun Aung, retired senior military officers, and high-ranking military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief.
First, the Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, and senior military officers took their positions inside and on the grounds of the Memorial to the Fallen Heroes. The Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence services laid a wreath, and together with the attending senior military officers, paid solemn tribute to the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty for national defence and security.
Afterwards, the Senior General and senior military officers signed the guestbook and toured the memorial.
The Memorial to the Fallen Heroes (Nay Pyi Taw) was inaugurated on March 27, 2017, under the guidance of the Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, with the objectives to honour Myanmar’s heroes who gave their lives for the nation’s independence and sovereignty, to commemorate those who displayed remarkable bravery and sacrifice after the country regained its sovereign authority, to ensure future generations remember these heroes, and to instill patriotism and a spirit of self-sacrifice for the nation in the hearts of the youth. Inside the memorial, the names of fallen heroes recipients of the Aung San Thuriya, Thiha Thura, and Thura medals, as well as those recorded in the Heroes’ Roll of Honour are engraved in gold on granite slabs. Additionally, outside the memorial, statues of five Aung San Thuriya medalist soldiers and one civilian stand in tribute.
