Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva has been banned from the sport until 2025 after it was found she committed an anti-doping rule violation, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said Monday. In addition, the gold medal won by the Russian team in the team skating event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics was also canceled.
According to the court statement, Valieva’s suspended sentence for violating the anti-doping rule was confirmed, beginning in December 2021, which is when she took the drug test. Commenting on the decision, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov defined the ruling as “politicized.”
As part of the four-year ban, Valieva’s competitive results from Dec. 25, 2021, will forfeit any titles, awards, medals, profits, prizes, and appearance money.
