In the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) was placed in Group F alongside Morocco, Tanzania, and Zambia.
The tournament started with a 1-1 draw against Zambia.DR Congo managed to secure a point in their opening match. In the second group stage match, DR Congo once again played to a 1-1 draw, this time against Morocco. The team showed resilience by consistently earning points in tightly contested matches. The trend continued in their final group-stage encounter against Tanzania, where DR Congo secured another 0-0 draw. This result contributed to their advancement to the knockout stages. Despite not winning any of their group-stage matches, they finished as the second-placed team in Group B behind Morocco.
In the 16th round match, they met with Egypt, who seven-time AFCON champions and 2021 runners-up, drew (1-1) within 90 minutes. After 30 minutes of extra time, there was no more goal. In the penalty shootout, Congo won (8-7) and advanced to the quarterfinals. In the quarter-finals, Congo will now face Guinea in the last 8.
